Schoolwide Words of the Day Week of Sept. 26

Variable - A symbol that represents an unknown or changing number. Ex:    x or y
Coefficient - The number being multiplied by a variable, usually directly in front of the variable Ex:    the 3 in 3xy
Expression - A collection of symbols representing a quantity that does not involve an equal sign. Ex:    7xy - 5y

Evaluate - To substitute a given number for the variable(s) in an expression and simplify.

Equation - A math sentence involving an equal sign. Ex:    2x + 4 = 28
